GAME DAY OR WEDDING DAY--GETTING MARRIED IN THE FALL CAN BE TRICKY

(memoirs of a retired wedding photographer --ne:college football fan)

In the days when I photographed Saturday weddings in the Fall, I found myself begging the groomsmen, and often the groom, to put away the transistor radios they were using to listen to the big game. There has been more than one unintentional outburst committed during the ceremony when a big score had been made. I soon made it my unique selling proposition that I would inform the wedding party of the latest scores as soon as the couple had walked back down the aisle. As I became a huge fan myself, I turned down weddings that would be attended during MY team's game time.

Most people are quite accommodating to the couple on a bye week but the volume of wedding dates in late November tends to drop with rivalries on the line. Any groom to be should really do the math when setting the date. And is it truly fair that the damsel of his life take second billing on this mother of all days in her life? Certainly she would appreciate him thinking of her feelings first.

The last wedding I ever photographed, as a favor after retirement, was a very pleasant beach wedding with a grand reception afterwards in the theater room of the wedding venue where we all settled in to watch the Auburn vs Georgia game. Champagne, cake, a lot of beer and a lot of Auburn fans made for the best wedding party I have ever attended.

If you must decide on a wedding date in the fall and need to check your team's schedule, go to GeorgiaDawgHouse.com for the latest college football schedules, scores and news on college football, the SEC, Georgia Bulldogs and the rival teams they play.
